Mateo J. Ricci, Student Writer
My name is Mateo Ricci, and I’m a Junior here at Greater Nanticoke Area High School. I’m originally from the Bronx, New York. I began attending Nanticoke in the 5th grade, but not before attending 8 other schools whilst my family moved around. I’ve always been interested in the arts, and I’ve been an active member of the GNA Marching band, Jazz band, and Concert band for 3 years now. I play the Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar, and Percussion, including Mallet Percussion. I’m also active in the GNA theater program, chorus, and student council. I’m the oldest of 8 siblings, and I consider myself an activist and strive to amplify the voices of others who think they don’t have one.
My hobbies consist of writing/playing music, drawing, and literature. I also love to play video games with my friends and go to football games with the band every Friday. I am a firm believer that music can bring people together as equals, and as a queer, autistic Hispanic person, I believe that everybody IS equal, and deserves equal opportunities in life.
I would love to pursue my passions as careers. After High School, I hope to attend a college in New York where I will major in mass communications, and minor in music theory and human rights. I am extremely passionate about the futures of our generations, and I will work to ensure that they have one and want to encourage others to do the same.
