The Bridge by Dolly Parton is a song from her 1968 album “Just Because I’m a Woman.” It starts by telling the story of a girl talking about the good times that she had with her boyfriend. “From the bridge, I see reflections in the water far below; you kissed me for the first time. He’d held me awfully tight, and the bridge became our favorite place.” We see that the bridge was a place of safety and love for this relationship. The love grew stronger here and was almost as strong as the bridge.
“Tonight I stand alone. Tonight, while standing on the bridge, my heart is beating wildly. To think that you could leave me here with our unborn child.” The boyfriend has now left, and the grief and the stress of being pregnant and alone are starting to take over.
“My feet are moving slowly, closer to the edge. Here is where it started, and here is where I’ll end it.” The song ends abruptly, just as quickly as life can end. This was very controversial for the time—the topics of getting pregnant, being single and pregnant, and suicide, were not something people would sing about, especially not a woman.

This was written so well and it truly describes the creativeness that went into the creation of this song.
