Safe dating presentation

In the month of April, a representative from the Domestic Violence Services of Luzerne County, Chandra Breese, will be coming to GNA to speak about safe dating. The presentation will be given to students in English classes of all grades in the high school building (grades 9-12). Breese has offered to come in and speak about safe dating with students—an initiative which the principal, Ms. Scibek, and others have approved in an effort to get new kinds of helpful assistance programs into the school for students.

The Domestic Violence Services of Luzerne County is a non-profit help organization for victims of physical and emotional abuse. By providing services such as a 24/7 crisis hotline (by phone call, or online), the Domestic Violence Services of Luzerne County hopes to work towards the elimination of domestic violence. It is part of a larger organization entitled The Domestic Violence Service Center, which shares the same goal.

With guidance and a thorough presentation, students will be more informed on the dangers of unsafe dating. This has the potential to assist current victims of abuse, as well as indicate warning signs to look for not only in students’ lives, but also in the lives of their loved ones.

The safe dating presentation will be given in the week before spring break. The schedule below presents on what day the presentation will be given to students of each grade:

  • Monday, April 15th: 9th grade
  • Tuesday, April 16th: 10th grade
  • Wednesday, April 17th: 11th grade
  • Thursday, April 18th: 12th grade
