The 2018 Bloomsburg Fair

As the temperatures lower and the Halloween decorations begin to appear in the yards of many, the time for the 163rd annual Bloomsburg Fair has come to Pennsylvania. Since it was created in 1855, the fair has been a source of excitement and entertainment for many years all over the Commonwealth, with varied durations over the course of many years—originally, it lasted two days; now, after fluctuations and changes, it has risen to nine days in length.

As these years passed and the fair gained popularity, its size increased accordingly. Thousands of vendors and stands, exhibits and shows, people and animals flocked to the town of Bloomsburg every autumn to enjoy the vibrancy of the crowd.

That was until Tropical Storm Lee of 2011 touched the East Coast. The fairgrounds were flooded, with water levels exceeding 32 feet, causing the Bloomsburg Fair to be cancelled for the first time in its history. This event prompted many important objects and exhibits to be moved to higher ground, so as to protect them in the case of such a scenario repeating itself.

For 2018, however, the headlines are planned to be filled with more enjoyable topics than the ruin of such a great event. On the first day of the fair, a live performance by the band Daughtry will awe the crowds. The truck-and-tractor pull will be the talk of the town on the second day; the Casting Crowns will play on day three. Darci Lynne will give a ventriloquism act on the fourth day, while the fifth will feature a figure-eight race and a performance by Cole Swindell and Kyle Mitchell. Rick Springfield, Eddie Money, Greg Kihn and Tommy Tutone will give a concert on the sixth day, followed by Melissa Etheridge and Vince Gill on the seventh and eighth days, respectively.  On the ninth and final day, the fair will show off Brett Eldredge and his special guests Devin Dawson and Abby Anderson in his Long Way tour, with a spectacular finale of a demolition derby as the last event of the year.

This year, over 890 different vendors will take part in the fair over the course of the nine days. Additionally, many exciting exhibits will be a part of the event. These will include the daily presentation of Bengal tigers; an arts and crafts activity that will be open for any and all to partake in; and, of course, the traditional and ever-popular show of livestock. And rest assured, there will be food present. The Bloomsburg Fair is not itself without vendors and food stands lining the fairgrounds.

In 2018, nothing is stopping the Bloomsburg Fair from being a success.  We encourage all readers to grab an umbrella when it rains, or a coat when it’s cold, or any other protection against the elements, and take part in this spectacular event between Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 29 (inclusive).
