GNA CAMPUS – This November at GNA, I would like to spotlight one of our most talented students, La’kiah Cooper. La’kiah is a dedicated athlete who is planning to pursue a career in sports.
To gain a better understanding of her expertise, I asked her a few questions.

“What is it exactly that you do?”
I am an equestrian, riding in the Hunter/jumper and equitation style of riding, as well as debuting into hunter derbies. I teach, help train, bring along, and show English jumping horses. I’m a local champion rider and recently made my debut in rated horse showing.
“How long have you been doing this sport?”
I have been riding for a total of 13 years, but competitively for around 7 years.
“What makes this sport special to you?”
I have loved horses ever since I was about 2 years old, and riding came so naturally to me. My love for horses is what keeps me alive and going every day and inspires me to be a better version of myself. Without horses, I’m not sure where I’d be mentally.
“What are your other interests outside of this sport?”
I am an artist who sells my artwork to make a profit and pay for horses. I love poetry and writing, and I also enjoy playing music and freestyling R&B songs.
“Any tips for people starting out?”
Time, patience, and being gritty/dedicated to the craft are what get you to the top. That’s how I got to where I am today riding-wise.
