What is Dr Pepper? It’s a soft drink crafted by Charles Alderton. All Recipes, claims “it has a taste similar to that of standard cola. It’s very sweet, but also peppery. It has a hint of vanilla, but also a hint of citrus. It also has a slight nutty flavor.”
Dr Pepper was originally made in Wade Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas, the drink’s distinctive flavor quickly became popular when it was first sold in 1885.
According to The Dr Pepper Museum website, Keurig Dr Pepper is the oldest major manufacturer of soft drink concentrates and syrups in the United States. Dr Pepper is America’s unique flavor. It was created, manufactured, and sold in 1885 in the Central Texas town of Waco.
The Dr Pepper Museum states that the origin of the name is unclear. However, on the Dr Pepper Corporate Information page, Wade Morrison, the drug store owner, named it “Dr Pepper” after Dr. Charles Pepper, a Virginia doctor who was the father of a girl Morrison was once in love with. (The period after Dr was dropped in the 1950s.)
Why do people enjoy Dr Pepper so much? Mrs. Scallion, a reporter at The Hawks’ Herald, wrote in her opinionated article “When I host my weekly soirees at my domicile, the party gets going once we break out that two-liter bottle. Sure, Coke and Pepsi taste good. But nothing excites a crowd like Dr Pepper. It has just the right combination of flavor, caffeine, and sugar to make a beverage that tastes great but doesn’t wear thin.”
