Happy Wednesday, GNA! This is GNA Music Madness where we do reviews, interviews, and overall music news!
Music News
In fresh music news, Taylor Swift’s new album is out! Though we won’t be reviewing it here, feel free to listen to it on your own time!
There’s also been even more debate in the rap community, between Quavo and, shockingly, Chris Brown. We still don’t weigh in on beef, but we’re sure there are people that have weighed in.
Finally, Mars Mignon is dropping his album, “The Great Wherever,” April 26th! He gave us the track list last week, and we’ll (hopefully) be reviewing it on May 1st!
Album Reviews
Before we showcase the albums and reviews, our review process is as follows;
- We listen to the albums days before we write the article.
- Afterward, we rate each song out of 10.
- We add these ratings, divide the rating by the number of tracks, and take that final number as the album rating!
We rank a new pop album, a new rap album, and (usually) a new jazz album each week! Today’s reviews are from April 21st, 2024.
Pop Album
Name: This Ain’t The Way You Go Out
Artist: Lucy Rose
Genre: Pop
Release Date: April 19th, 2024
Favorite Track: The Racket
Total Rating: 7.4/10
Though this could technically also be partially classified as jazz, our pop album this week was definitely good! This Ain’t The Way You Go Out by Lucy Rose has a deep meaning, as We enjoyed listening to it and we rated it a solid 7.4/10. Something I noticed was that, although it’s a pop album, it took some solid jazz elements and combined the genres. Sadly, it doesn’t get album of the week, though. Even so, I’d recommend this to just about anyone.
Jazz Album
Name: Memory In Motion
Artist: The Jazz Defenders
Genre: Instrumental Jazz
Release Date: April 19th, 2024
Favorite Track: Snakebite Playfight
Rating: 8.6/10
Memory In Motion by The Jazz Defenders was our highest rated album this week, and we present it with GNA Music Madness’s Album of the Week title! Winning the rating by 1.2 points, making it our biggest leader yet. It’s an instrumental jazz album with energetic, calm, and smooth tracks, all packed into this 9-track album. It also did the unthinkable, with not one, but two 10/10 tracks on it. My overall favorite song was “Snakebite Playfight,” and I would recommend this album to the people in my life who may need to take a break and soak in their environment.
Rap Album
Name: ROLLERCOASTER
Artist: Cadence Weapon
Genre: Rap/Hip-Hop
Release Date: April 19th, 2024
Favorite Track: YASTM.m4a
Rating: 5/10
For a rap album, it definitely wasn’t the best. As an album itself it wasn’t bad, but I didn’t like it very much at all. I may be biased against it, as someone that doesn’t like rap. But this rap album had songs that weren’t even rap. I rated it a 5/10, because it wasn’t terrible but it definitely wasn’t good either. I wouldn’t personally recommend this, but I won’t judge if someone listens to it anyway!
