Happy Wednesday, GNA! This is GNA Music Madness where we do reviews, interviews, and overall music news!
Music News
In music news, there’s been very popular beef in the rap community between artists Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Though we won’t be getting into that here, it’s definitely worth mentioning.
Also, Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, is out! We here at Music Madness are very excited to review this album next week, so stay tuned!
Album Reviews
Before we showcase the albums and reviews, our review process is as follows;
- We listen to the albums days before we write the article.
- Afterward, we rate each song out of 10.
- We add these ratings, divide the rating by the number of tracks, and take that final number as the album rating!
We rank a new pop album, a new rap album, and (usually) a new jazz album each week! Today’s reviews are from April 12th, 2024.
Pop Album
Name: Don’t Forget Me
Artist: Maggie Rogers
Genre: Indie Pop
Release Date: April 12th, 2024
Favorite Track: Never Going Home
Total Rating: 7.6/10
Don’t Forget Me by Maggie Rogers was released just Friday, April 12th. I gave it an average rating of 7.6/10 as seen in the table. The album definitely had a middling amount of songs that I enjoyed, and its rating was lowered by some songs I didn’t like nearly as much as the full album. A song I did like, however, was Never Going Home. I’d definitely recommend this album to someone who likes indie rock.
Jazz Album
Name: When I Look In Your Eyes
Artist: Diana Krall
Genre: Vocal Jazz
Release Date: June 8th, 1999
Favorite Track: Devil May Care
Rating: 7/10
The jazz album, When I Look In Your Eyes by Diana Krall, was rated a 7/10 total. The album was released on June 8th, 1999, and was a vocal jazz album. I was shocked, I didn’t really like parts of this album when I listened to it. I’m an avid listener of jazz, so this album being the lowest ranked album this week is a bit odd to me. I did enjoy a decent portion of the songs, though. For example, Devil May Care was a prime example of what I expected from the album. I’d consider recommending this album to someone who likes vocal jazz, as well as someone who enjoys modulation.
Rap Album
Name: Liberation 2
Artist: Talib Kweli
Genre: Rap
Release Date: April 12th, 2024
Favorite Track: One For Biz
Rating: 8.7/10
I don’t like rap too much. However, I’m shocked to present Liberation 2 by Talib Kweli with this week’s GNA Music Madness Album Of The Week! It won the rating by an entire point. I perceive this album to be dedicated to racial and political injustice, as it speaks on heavy topics in monologues before the rapping begins. My favorite song of this album was One For Biz, and I would recommend this album to just about anybody who listens to rap.
