Episode 2.) For Myself
The episode begins right off where the last one ended. We begin with Gojo beating up Sukuna’s body, stating, “My student is watching, I’m gonna show off a little.”
After 10 seconds have passed, Yuji switches back with Sukuna and Gojo concludes his test. Yuji states he’s perfectly fine now but finds Sukuna annoying as he can hear his voice, a major foreshadowing event later on. Gojo knocks Yuji out and asks Megumi what they should do with him. Gojo insists Yuji has the potential to be a vessel for Sukuna, delaying his execution because he’s now classified as a Cursed User, but still wants to know what Megumi wants. Although they just met, Megumi expresses his gratitude to Yuji for saving him twice now, telling Gojo he wants Yuji to live. Gojo laughs and tells Megumi to count on him.
Then we immediately cut to Gojo telling Yuji he’s bound to die because he can’t convince the higher-ups, ironic. Gojo tells Yuji about his chances to become a cursed vessel, and Yuji eventually agrees. His sentence is now being postponed until he has collected and eaten all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers. The plan is to make Yuji eat all the fingers and then kill off Yuji, as when the user dies, the curse within also dies. Gojo insists the fingers cannot just be destroyed, displaying some of his power to try and destroy it, but it ends up as a useless attempt. Yuji takes some time to process all the information, implying he wants to have a “proper death” rather than a non-forgivable one. Gojo tells Yuji to think about it and get back to him by tomorrow.
Yuji then visits his two friends who are stuck in the hospital. The Occult Club Leader tells Yuji that it’s her fault the other member got hurt, but Yuji immediately steps in and says it was his fault. She starts crying and even though he didn’t tell her what had truly happened that night because she was unconscious, he assures her that she will live a happy and meaningful life.
The next day Yuji and Gojo meet up on a bench, and Gojo lectures him that he has his own choices in life, and not just to be persuaded by another’s will. Gojo and Yuji then go to an isolated room, where Gojo hands him another finger. Yuji then swallows it, Gojo carefully watching him to make sure Sukuna doesn’t take over his body. Yuji starts laughing menically and Gojo prepares to kill him immediately, but then takes back control and almost barfs at the taste. Gojo backs off and laughs, expressing how impressive this boy truly is. Gojo tells Yuji he’s perfect for the job and Yuji agrees to live on to destroy Sukuna for good, even if it means dying for the benefit of others in the end. Gojo tells Yuji to start packing and get ready for tomorrow, as he has an important meeting with the principal that day.
Gojo then leads Yuji into the massive forests of Tokyo, where Jujustu High School is located, with a cover-up name of being a private religious school. During their walk, we get our first look at how Sukuna can interact with Yuji’s body while not in control. A small mouth sprouts from Yuji’s face and hand. Allowing Sukuna to taunt Gojo, to which he replies in a sassy manner and taunts the spirit. Gojo tells the tale of how Sukuna came to be and how he was the King Of All Curses, still stating he can beat him though.
Eventually, they both go to meet the Jujutsu High School Principal. Here the principal asks what Yuji is fighting for, what his goal is, and what he is hoping to learn by attending this high school, to which Yuji says he wants to have a proper death. The principal mocks Yuji for this and tells him, “You’d fight because another told you so? I have no use for weaklings like you in my school.”
The principal then creates a cursed technique puppet monster and orders it to attack Yuji. Yuji tries to counter but just gets taunted at this point. The principal states he will keep attacking until he gets a solid answer, as a person’s true nature reveals itself in a crisis. Yuji attempts to survive and block the attacks but gets out-speeded every single time, eventually giving in and telling the principal his true reason. Yuji states, “As a kid, I was always better than other kids at things like sports, but not once did I think this is something only I can do, never!”
He then finally dodges the plush and counters, keeping it in a lock and grounding it. He then continues with, “Consuming Sukuna is only something I can do, and If I dared to die right now knowing people are dying because I chose to run away and die, I would never forgive myself. Even if it kills me later down the line, I will do my very best to try and save the lives of as many people as I possibly can by eating Sukuna’s fingers!”
Just like that, the principal accepts Yuji and tells Gojo to show Yuji to his dorm. Gojo tells Yuji that all the 1st and 2nd years are out right now but he’ll meet them eventually. He also briefs Yuji on the fact that he needs to be used as a sort of scanner for Sukuna’s fingers, so he needs to get battle-ready as many challenges and enemies are out there, like cursed spirits and the especially strong cursed users. Gojo states, “You’re both vessel and radar, so we need you.”
Right after, Megumi sees Yuji and Yuji jumps with excitement to see Megumi all better after his injuries. After some squabbling because Yuji entered Megumi’s room, Gojo tells them both to get ready to pick up and meet the 3rd classmate of their Jujutsu Srceror generation. We then cut to a scene of the newest member of our trio being shown off, Nobara Kugisaki. And with that, the episode ends.
Overall this episode was mainly to set up the main plot for the show and establish some flooring for future stuff to come with Yuji and other characters. It doesn’t reveal too much about certain people outside the main storyline but I still enjoy the episode nonetheless. By the way, things are going, I could say I’m a fan of how the story is panning out, and I’m sure you’d love to see what’s to come. Thanks for reading!
