Izabella Gronka, Student Writer
My name is Izabella Gronka, and I’m a junior here at GNA. I’ve been attending GNA my entire life. I’m a 3-year member of the Nanticoke Varsity Cheerleading Team and have been a cheerleader for the last 11 years. During my time at GNA, I’ve also participated in basketball, soccer, volleyball, field hockey, track and field, and was a dancer before my years as a cheerleader. This past year I was given the opportunity to play Aunt Em and Glinda in my school’s production of Wizard of Oz. I am also vice president of my junior class and am a member of the National Honors Society and World Language Honors Society.
Outside of school, I spend my time listening to music, watching movies, painting, and spending time with my loved ones. I love to play guitar and express myself through music. I attend Nebo Baptist Church and volunteer in their annual VBS and other activities. I enjoy spending my time with other people and keep myself quite busy. I have two American Bullies named Gemini and Beeja. A fun fact about me is that I’m a Harry Styles fan and got the chance to see him in concert last year at Madison Square Garden. While at the concert, the staff there moved me from my upper bowl seat to the floor!
After high school, I plan on going to college and receiving a Bachelor's degree in either Business or Communications. Although I’m still split on what I’d like to do with that degree, I’ve concluded that I’ll either go into the music industry as a tour manager, or I’ll get a cosmetology license and open my own salon. When I graduate college, I would like to live somewhere close to the east coast. However, nothing is set in stone and my life could go in a completely different direction. Whatever path I choose to take I just hope to feel proud of myself and content with where I’ve gotten.
Xavier L. Skillens, Student Writer
My name is Xavier Skillens, I’m 17 years old and a senior here at GNA. I’ve been a student here at GNA all my life, having been in the district since preschool at KM Smith when that was still a school. I find the fact that the place was turned into apartments strange, I don’t even want to know what it’s like living in an old, defunct school. Tangent aside, I’ve been going here for a while, and as a senior, I’m happy to be getting out, not that the high school is a bad place to be, but I feel a change of scenery would help me a lot.
As for what I do within the school, I’m part of the newspaper. I’m a member of the cross-country and track teams as well. Apart from those two things, I’m the Class Historian for the Student Council. I randomly help with things here and there, and have a bad track record when it comes to remembering where my lanyard is. Outside of school, I work at Stookey’s BBQ, I’m a member of St Faustina’s Youth Ministry, I build model kits, hike, and play video games. I enjoy doing these things, even if I’ve almost bitten it hiking more times than I’d like to admit.
My aspirations after high school are anything but simple, as I’m fixing on attending the US Naval Academy. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little boy, and after going there for a week in June, where every morning started off with an exercise, the day was filled to the brim with things to do, I attended classes that genuinely interested me and was surrounded by some of America’s finest people. I felt like I fit in there like a glove. If there is anything I’d recommend to anyone, it’s taking a tour of Annapolis. That place is absolutely beautiful, the architecture and history there are something to behold, and as a history nerd myself.
