GNA CAMPUS — A GNA alumni has returned to his roots to teach in the high school at GNA. Mr. Piontkowski teaches world history to students every day with admirable positivity and uplifting words. He chose to teach in order to make a difference and we’re happy he’s back to do it here at GNA.
Mr. Piontkowski was generous enough to sit down with The GNA Insider and answer a few questions.
What college did you attend? What was your major?
Wilkes University and history/education.
What was your high school experience like? How did deciding your future go?
My high school experience was enjoyable. In the four years at GNA, I made lifelong friends, played several varsity sports, and enjoyed and respected the teachers who inspired me and other students to do our best.
How has your time been at GNA so far?
It has been interesting because I taught middle school for 16 years. Teaching high school has been an adjustment, but I am definitely happy that I am back at GNA.
Is there anything you’re excited to see happen this school year that’s a part of our traditions?
Yes, Homecoming, Spirit Games, and so much more.
What’s your favorite topic to teach to your class?
I like to bring current events into all of my classes. I enjoy history, but I enjoy incorporating a variety of topics and events in class.
What do some of your hobbies include?
I enjoy listening to music, going to concerts with my wife, and collecting vinyl records.
What was your main reason for deciding to work in education?
I went into education to make a difference.
Do you have any advice for your students this year?
My advice to all my students this year would be to be active in the school community, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, and enjoy your four years at GNA.
Thank you to Mr. Piontkowski for taking the time out of his day to answer these questions for The GNA Insider. Good luck and have a great school year!
