Getting to know our fire police officers

NANTICOKE CITY – Fire police officers play an important role in every community. They are at every emergency scene, ensuring the safety of the public.

The GNA Insider had the opportunity to sit down with two local fire police officers to ask them some questions about their job:

Why did you want to become a member of the fire police?

To assist the fire department and police department. Now that I am getting older, I let the younger guys fight fires. 

What is the job of a fire police officer?

Traffic control/ground control/road closure. Assist state police and state fire marshals, swat team assists local police department, district attorney, fire department, Penn dot, and federal marshals.

How have you prepared for the job of a fire police officer?

Fire police classes, hazmat classes, traffic classes, and learning from other officers. 

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in becoming a member of the fire police?

Take the classes, listen to the officers, stay alert, and talk to current officers.

Why did you want to become a member of the fire police?

To serve the community by working with firefighters and police helping keep the people safe. 

What is the job of a fire police officer?

To organize a perimeter around an incident to protect the first responders at the scene and prevent the public from harm. Traffic control and security at events.

How have you prepared for the job of a fire police officer?

By doing courses on safety and traffic control I also worked in Aviation Security for seven years so my experience there assisted me. 

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in becoming a member of the fire police?

Come to your station and speak to first responders and fire police officers. Come and join us as we need new and young members.
