Spider-Man: Homecoming

Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Spider-Man: Homecoming. I thought this was a very solid first movie for Spider-Man in the MCU. He was introduced for the first time in Captain America: Civil War. Usually, with Spider-Man the first movie is basically a build-up to show how Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man. However, in this one you just jump right into it with him living his double life and trying to protect the city of New York. The only thing is Tony Stark wants to protect him and only wants him fighting smaller crimes. Obviously, Peter wants to prove himself so he ignores him and has some very big fight scenes that all went very well. Tony makes a few small appearances throughout the movie but they were used very effectively. They also introduce Peter’s two best friends Ned and MJ. Liz is also his interest throughout the film as he’s usually trying to impress her.

The villain of the movie is Vulture but his real name is Adrian Toomes. The movie starts off with Adrian before he becomes a villain and shows why he hates all of the superheroes, especially Tony Stark. He’s a bit different from Marvel’s normal villains. They usually want to destroy/take over the world but Vulture is a much simpler villain than that and it’s actually pretty refreshing. There are also some good twists with Vulture and how much closer he is to Peter than he actually notices. Another character in the movie is Happy Hogan who was in the Iron Man movies, usually as a chauffeur of some sort. However, in this movie, he’s watching over Peter a lot and trying to keep him out of serious trouble.

I always rate the marvel movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 85/100, it just has some amazing characters. Alongside great action and cinematography, with a good villain it sets up quite nicely. The only thing that brought the movie down for me was I thought that the acting at times was questionable and the pacing could’ve been a bit better. However, for the most part this was a very good movie that I highly recommend if you’re a Spider-Man fan.
