Trojans upset the Black Knights of Lake Lehman

After a tough season of close games and hard losses, the Nanticoke varsity boys soccer team gave everything they had and left nothing on the field in route to their victory over number 2 seed Lake Lehman in Division III.

Thursday, October 13, was senior night for the boys. This year, five were graduating and most of them have played together since they were in diapers. As Coach Matusek always says before a game, “I want you to leave everything on that field. You have 80 minutes and you need to play your hearts out,” — they certainly did.

Lake Lehman came into Thursday’s game with their backs against the wall, trying to overcome 2 losses against Berwick and Wyoming Seminary. The Black Knights needed the win to get back on top of the division.

After the first half, the score was 1-1, Lake Lehman only scoring off of a penalty kick. By the end of the game, the score came down to 2-2, but with Adam Eckhart’s speed, another goal was scored, making it 3-2 in the 75th minute. Nanticoke played a tough defense and planted the “iron leg,” as Captain Justin Ostopick would say, and won the game, upsetting Lake Lehman.
