Meet Mr. Sloan

Greater Nanticoke Area would like to welcome Mr. Sloan, who is a new employee with the district. He is the new director of buildings and grounds.

What is your current title?

Director of buildings and grounds.

Where did you grow up?

Rural North Carolina. Iredell county, Statesville city.                           

While growing up, did anyone in particular inspire you? If so, who, and how did they inspire you?

Road crew workers have inspired me. When I was about 10 years old I would wake up at 3 a.m. on the weekends to row with the sweeper guy who worked for the city of Statesville.

What high school did you attend?

South Iredell High Barium springs , N.C

Who were some of your favorite teachers in high school?

Science and Physics teachers.

Can you briefly explain your career path and how it led you to your current position at Nanticoke?

My father used to get on me for tearing apart machines, bikes, lawnmowers etc. I was curious how things were made or put together. I came from a family of Masons, Carpenters, Builders, and so I guess it is in my blood.

What are some things you enjoy about your current position?

Sense of accomplishment and how much we can complete in a day’s time.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Dealing with outside contractors. You’re not able to completely control the work that they do.

Do you have any hobbies or passions outside of your job?

Scuba Diving, Computers, Working on cell phones.
