Advice from a senior
The end of the 2018-2019 school year is quickly approaching, and our seniors are preparing to go off to college and experience a new journey. As most seniors by now have realized, senior year is over in the blink of an eye.
These three general tips are meant to help guide the underclassmen who will soon be seniors.
1. School Spirit
Showing your school spirit at sporting events, spirit week, school parties, and many other school events allows you to meet new people and build better relationships with them, evolve new perspectives, and just enjoy the adventures of high school. When asked what kind of advice would you give underclassmen, Haileigh Hendricks said, “Always dress in the theme of the sporting events. That is very important because you get to show off all the cool clothing and helps you get more into the game. Also, go to as many events as you can such as tailgates, pep rallies, Friday night lights, athletic events, etc. One day it will all make sense. It taught me that we could build a friendship with different kids from different schools, cheer for different teams, and still have a bond with everyone. One story that Hendricks will never forget is when one day she was dressed up in the Trojan mascot costume and a little girl came up and asked if she was the Trojan and it really touched her heart, so she gave her a high five and hugged her.”
2. Making new friends
Growing up through high school, you might think you have the best group of friends you could possibly find, but you’ve been with the same group of people for years by now. This is your last chance to get to meet some new people in your grade before everyone parts there own way, so take advantage of this time. According to Hendricks her advice to the underclassmen is to “be outgoing and make as many new friends as possible. Your friends are always going to be there for you through thick and thin. Also, I think you should go to as many proms and semi’s as you can because that’s where I met a lot of new friends and now they are my best friends. Looking back on my years, I had helped a kid that dropped his books everywhere and I nice enough to help that person and picked up their books for them. Therefore, we built a friendship that went far more than I expected and now we hang out all the time and we are good friends.”
3. Cherish the moment
High School comes around only once in your life. Go out under the lights on that Friday and watch the football game, dress up for spirit week, go to prom and semi, hang out with your friends, laugh every day, and never have any worries; these will be big moments you will look back on someday. High School is the last of many things. Hendricks said, “I couldn’t tell you any more than what is said. Everyone takes everything for granted and it really doesn’t hit anyone until graduation day and you are walking across the stage on your final day of high school.” One story Hendricks won’t forget is taking the District Championship game for volleyball and going to school thinking it’s just any other day for granted. She also said, “take as many pictures as you want. By taking pictures and keeping them one day you’ll look back on those moments and realize everything you’ve had done. I really enjoyed high school and you should be excited about the amazing adventures that you are about to go on in the next couple of years. One last thing, everyone is going to miss high school once in their lifetime and you should embrace every moment you get before it is gone.”
