Halloween is close at hand, and you need a costume. It can be trick-or-treating or a party; this year needs to be the year of scary fun. Here are some ideas on what to go as this Hallows Eve.
While a black cat can seem overused, pairing it with a witch turns your feline appearance into a wicked familiar. This can be as simple as a black leotard and cat ears, with a cloaked witch carrying a broom. However, if you want to take it even further, consider playing with prosthetics and fake warts, or a crooked nose. Get a cat nose prosthetic and a full black, eccentric outfit.
Horror movie characters have always been in fashion, but instead of Michael Myers or Ghostface, go as Pennywise or Leatherface. You can pick up any commercial costume at Spirit Halloween or Amazon. You could even make it a couple of costumes and do Tiffany and Chucky.
Another classic is zombies. Now you can do this any way you like, lean more into gore, or do a more cartoony neon look. But whatever it is, you need some tattered clothes. Thrift stores are the best form of this since it’ll cost you $5 to get anything you need. From there, you can dye it with tea and rip it up with any pair of scissors. Splatter fake blood and guts spilling out. Customize it however you want.
I see a lot of people going as pop icons, and I’m all for it. Chappel Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are the top contenders, but I’ve seen Taylor Swift and Eminem. I mean, you could even go as Michael Jackson or Snoop Dogg. For some of these, I’m sure you can find things at Spirit and even Walmart or Target. But once again, a more affordable option is the thrift store.
Group costumes are always fun and exciting. For larger groups, Scooby Doo is always a fun option. I see a lot of Power Rangers as well. Going as a group of Disney princesses or classic horror icons. For trios, Power Puff Girls are a really solid choice. Or the main trio in Monster High is an amazing and fashionable group idea
This Halloween, go crazy. Get scary. Stay weird. This holiday is for fun, don’t forget it.
