Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Bullet Train. Bullet Train is a movie that was released not too long ago in 2022, and it is one of the most fun and entertaining movies to me so far this decade. The main reason for this is because of its loaded cast from top to bottom, along with fantastic writing which is hilarious and insanely entertaining from an action standpoint. This movie follows Ladybug, who is an unlucky assassin who’s determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs has gone off the rails. However, his latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe, all with very conflicting objectives, while all being on the world’s fastest train. This movie heavily relies on its amazing cast and group of characters, which works very well considering how great the cast all blends together. This cast is led by Brad Pitt who plays Ladybug, Joey King who plays Prince, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry who play the amazing duo of Tangerine and Lemon, Bad Bunny who plays The Wolf, and Michael Shannon who plays The White Death. All of these characters are great in their own ways and like I said they bounce off each other perfectly to create some hilarious and also action-packed scenes. Tangerine and Lemon are easily my favorite out of everyone, as they have a great mixture of comedy and action together, with also having some more emotional scenes when needed.
The White Death is the antagonist of this movie, who is a very sinister and ruthless crime lord from the Soviet Union who seized control of the Japanese underworld. I love this villain honestly, as I think they showcase him as this ruthless killer very well and legitimately make you fear him. He also has some very cool and well-choreographed scenes that make his intensity feel even more real. This movie does a lot of things very well too, and the main parts of this movie that really stand out to me, besides the comedy and action, are the cinematography and pacing. Both are absolutely amazing and really help improve this movie heavily. I don’t think the action scenes would be as good as they are without the cinematography being as good as it is, and the movie just flows really well with some great pacing too. Admittedly, there are some issues with this movie, mainly with the acting at times and the ending is a little cheesy, but still not that bad.
I always rate movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: acting, cinematography, pacing, score, comedy, side characters, ending, plot, main character, and action. I gave this movie an 84/100, and as I’ve said throughout this, most of the movie is very good and has a lot of high moments. However, like I said the spotty acting at times and the mediocre ending bring it down a bit, but nothing too bad that would make it not worth watching.
