28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later (although due to a time skip near the end of the original film, it’s more like 28 weeks and 28 days later) are part of a series of zombie films by directors Danny Boyle and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
28 Days Later is a 2002 film that stars Jim (played by Cillian Murphy), a man who was left alive in a hospital after an incident that left him comatose and wakes up 28 days after a zombie outbreak.
It is the first film of its kind to introduce the idea of running or “Sprinter” zombies, a term popularized by other zombie media: Project Zomboid.
Jim goes on to meet Selena, Frank, and Frank’s daughter, Hannah. The group travels together to Manchester after Frank informs them of a broadcast he overhears from a military outpost. They spend their time exploring now-abandoned locations in London, as well as the countryside.
28 Years Later, like its namesake, takes place 28 years after the original outbreak. Zombies in the film are infused with something called the “Rage” virus.
Cillian Murphy is said to be involved in the project, although no one is sure to what extent, outside of being credited as an Executive Producer.
Fans were teased by a zombie in the trailer loosely resembling Cillian Murphy and his character, Jim; however, it has been confirmed to be a different actor. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, and Erin Kellyman are also said to be actors in the film.
