Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Fight Club. Fight Club is a movie from the 90s and is considered one of the best and biggest movies of all time. This is an action/crime movie, and it follows a man who is depressed and suffering from insomnia, who runs into a strange soap salesman named Tyler Durden. After his apartment is destroyed, he moves in with Tyler, and the two bored men end up creating an underground club with strict rules and fight other men who are also fed up with their mundane lives. However, their perfect partnership and friendship starts to fray when Marla, who is a fellow support group crasher begins to attract the attention of Tyler. The main two leads in this are Edward Norton, who you never find out his name, but he is the main depressed character I mentioned earlier, and Brad Pitt who played Tyler Durden. Both men show absolutely great performances, and it’s easily up there for the best of both of their respective careers. This is definitely Norton’s best ever for me, but with Pitt it’s a little tougher but it’s definitely top 3 regardless, which says a lot considering how many great performances he’s had throughout his career. Helena Bonham Carter also has a pretty solid performance as Marla. She’s not in it as much but she does a good job with her character and making her as important as she needs to be for the story to work.
The story of this is easily the best part of the entire movie. It is so well crafted and put together, and that doesn’t always mean it’s going to translate to the movie well because it still needs to be executed. However, this was as perfectly executed as it possibly could’ve been. This story is so intricate and detailed and I would say it’s one of the most flawless plots in any movie I’ve ever seen. The actors and director just do a great job at bringing it to life as well, and the actual direction and camera shots you get are just next level as well. For a movie that came out in 1999, it looks absolutely amazing, and you get multiple iconic shots out of this as well. The twists and turns this movie takes are also just second to none, with one of the biggest reveals at the end of the movie in cinematic history. You also can’t talk about this movie without talking about the ending. It is one of the most iconic movie endings of all time, and it is perfectly shot. The score behind all of this, but specifically the ending, playing “Where is my Mind” is just perfect.
I always rate movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: acting, cinematography, pacing, score, fighting, side characters, ending, plot, main character, and dialogue. I gave this movie a 97/100, and there are just absolutely no flaws in this movie. Just a masterpiece of a film and I would suggest that everyone watch this at some point, as it will leave your jaw on the floor.
