Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. I saw this movie in theaters when it was released and this movie is near perfect. This movie follows Furiosa when she is snatched from her home and gets caught in the middle of two tyrannical warlords. While the two warlords and their armies fight for dominance, Furiosa finds herself in a nonstop battle to get back home. First off, if you haven’t seen the first Mad Max movie from about 10 years ago, I highly suggest watching that one first. However, this movie is absolutely phenomenal on every level. Starting off with our lead stars, Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Furiosa, and Chris Hemsworth who plays Dr. Dementus, who is one of the evil warlords. Both of these leads absolutely knock it out of the park and it is my favorite role from both of their entire careers. Chris Hemsworth has had a lot of big roles throughout his career, but I think this performance tops all of them. He has so much personality and he’s not always given the chance to show it, but they really let him go in this movie and just let his personality shine. Anya as Furiosa is also really phenomenal, and as a younger actress, this is a huge showing for her.
The villain of this movie is Dementus, who as I said was played by Chris Hemsworth. He and Furiosa have some of the best dialogue of the year in this movie. There is one specific part at the end, where for about 10-15 minutes it’s just those two going back and forth with amazing dialogue seeing who can drop the best line. Along with all of this, it’s still an action movie. Just like in the first Mad Max movie, there are just some insane action sequences to watch unfold. The choreography of these action scenes is just insane and it all works so well and seeing it on the big screen also just added so much. Along with this, the cinematography going along with it was phenomenal and mesmerizing to watch as well.
I always rate movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: emotion, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, side characters, ending, plot, main character, and dialogue. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 93/100, and as you can tell I’m just repeatedly praising this movie and there seriously isn’t anything I disliked about this movie at all.
