Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Trap. This movie follows a man and his daughter at a concert, when the dad realizes they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event. The dad realizes the whole concert is a Trap, for finding a serial killer named The Butcher, who happens to be him(this isn’t a spoiler as it is shown in the trailers). First off, I want to talk about the lead actor in this movie, and that is Josh Hartnett. It’s one of the best performances I’ve seen from a 2024 release hands down. He is truly phenomenal to watch. His ability to go from the silly, fun, corny dad, to a meticulous psychopath, is just amazing to watch. They do a great job at building up the relationship between the father and daughter. As the movie progresses you just start hoping more and more that he won’t disappoint his daughter after you see how good of a relationship they have. You see he’s willing to do anything for his daughter and even with everything going on and potentially getting caught, he still wants to make sure his daughter has a great time.
The antagonist in this movie is once again Cooper, the dad, played by Josh Hartnett. I just can’t explain enough how great he is in this movie, especially in the whole second half. M. Night Shyamalan, the director, deserves his credit too. He let the suspense of this movie build up and he didn’t release the chaos until he’s certain the suspense had been built up long enough. He showed great restraint and patience which makes this movie so much better in the long run. From stability to instability, a ticking time bomb, and anxiety-filled f Hartnett does a great job painting all of this over his face as the movie progresses. The camera shots were also so dynamic and unique that it was a marvel to watch. Everything also just looked so good along with these dynamic shots. The cinematographer went absolutely nuts with this one.
I always rate movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are emotion, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, side characters, ending, plot, main character, and dialogue. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 90/100, and there isn’t much I can say against this movie. I truly loved this entire thing from start to finish. I thought the pacing was phenomenal, along with a great score and cinematography. Along with a unique plot, and an amazing lead performance to top it all off. A great movie added to the 2024 catalog.
