Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of The Fall Guy. This movie follows a battle-scarred stuntman Colt Seavers, who after leaving the business one year earlier, springs back into action when the star of a big studio movie suddenly disappears. Colt then soon finds himself ensnared in a sinister plot that pushes him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt. During all of this, we also are following a love story between our two main characters Colt and Jody Moreno. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are the two leads in this movie, and their chemistry together is phenomenal. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors working in the world and I’m convinced he’s incapable of making a bad movie. This movie is just insanely energetic and entertaining, with crazy action sequences and choreography, while simultaneously being hilarious from start to finish.
The antagonist of this movie is Tom Ryder. He’s the great action star that Colt is a stuntman for. I will say, the antagonist is definitely not the strong suit of this movie. This movie relies way more on the great energy brought in by our main two leads and the fun action sequences. The plot of this movie is also a little all over the place. Another really good part of this movie is Winston Duke, who is just a guy on set, however, his comedic timing is really good and he has many good lines throughout the movie. I truly think this is one of the funniest comedy movies of the year, only behind Hit Man. Everyone just has great comedic timing and chemistry so they bounce off each other very well. The score of this is also very good and has great song choices, and the use of these songs was also very good
I always rate movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are comedy, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, side characters, ending, plot, main character, and dialogue. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 76/100, and the two main things that drag this down are the side characters and plot. Like I said the plot is a bit messy but it’s not meant to have a great plot. It’s meant to be a hilarious comedy with energetic characters, and it does that very well.
