Who doesn’t love the beautiful smell of rain? The cold, dry winter air is starting to recede as summer approaches. We begin to see the ubiquitous pops of color from flowers blooming and vibrant rainbows shining from the sun peeking through rainy days. So as you’re driving with droplets splattering across your windshield, I’m going to share my top ten songs for you to listen to and “spring” into spring.
- Till Forever Falls Apart – FINNEAS, Ashe
This song, released in the spring of 2021, has a stunning and heartfelt message with an even more beautiful blend of harmonies. It can be found on Ashe’s sophomore album, Ashlyn, which is an equally as great album to give a listen to this spring.
- Taylor – Ashe
Keeping it on the theme, this is another song from Ashe’s sophomore album, Ashlyn. It’s a peaceful ballad that is sure to pair well with the sound of rain tapping against your windows.
- Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
A throwback to the 60s to pick up the mellow mood. Once the sun peeks through for the first time through the rain, be sure to turn this song on to revel in it.
- Wild Stare – Giant Rooks
This song can be found on Giant Rooks’ indie rock album, ROOKERY. While the sound of this song is different from the others on this list, it’s a great song to throw on to get yourself into the warm weather spirit.
- You Could Start A Cult – Niall Horan
One of my personal favorites, “You Could Start A Cult” can be found on Niall Horan’s newest album The Show. This song is simple yet has such deep, beautiful lyrics.
- Strawberry Fields Forever – The Beatles
The Beatles are always a classic for any time and any season with their eclectic discography. This song, while light-hearted to simple-minded folk, is greatly nostalgic. It’s meant to take you back to a place in your youth when nothing went deeper than surface level, and you were oblivious to everything. I find it to be a great song to listen to moving into the warmer months.
- Love Grows – Edison Lighthouse
Nobody knows like me… how much joy this song can bring while driving with the windows down and wind in your hair. Edison Lighthouse paints a picture of a girl who lives down to Earth and is completely carefree. It so closely matches the feeling of a springtime drive on the first warm day of the year.
- Cherry – Harry Styles
Less of a warm, sunny day type of beat, Harry Styles created an amazing song to listen to on a windy day while the rain is pouring. If you need a song to “get in your feels” while you’re stuck in the house with nowhere to go, this should be your go-to.
- From the Start – Laufey
Laufey is someone I find to be extremely underrated. If her discography could be grouped into a season, my vote would be springtime. When looking to listen to a song that’ll help boost the anticipation for summer love, this should be the first on your list.
- Cigarette Daydream – Cage The Elephant
Finally at the number one spot is the song that inspired me to compile this list. “Cigarette Daydream” is the epitome of what I would call a spring song. It paints pictures of dancing and driving in the pouring rain to find yourself. It’s something we all do leading into the summer months, and I couldn’t name a more perfect song to listen to while driving all night on a gloomy, rainy day in spring.
