Parasaurolophus was one of the largest bipedal dinosaurs. Some cases are as big as a T. Rex but not as big. It is still one of the biggest in the dinosaur kingdom. A lot of its lives are still not fully known. Its large crest is the reason for that. It could have had many uses, but its use is unknown. It could’ve used one or many.
Some of the Parasaurolophus crest uses could have been for mating to attract females, It could have been used to make loud noises in a herd to communicate or call others, or even just to store its brain in it. The use is unknown but there have been cases of people studying the fossils or people recreating the tubes through the crest to recreate noises that could be what they sound like. If it is it would be the only one-to-one sounds from dinosaurs we could hear as of now.
Some subspecies of parasaurolophus were small as trucks at full grown and others were getting close to 33-36ft long. That is the size of some buses. At that size, they would’ve been able to defend themselves pretty well. Even the small ones could. Being able to stand on two or four legs means you can defend all angles pretty easily with kicks. Getting kicked from the front hooves while it is standing up would most likely shatter bones. Even with this size, it was alive during some of the worst years for dinosaurs. The creatasous period meaning T rexs and many other not as well known dinosaurs would’ve hunted these amazing creatures.
The parasaurolophus also lived in tighter spaces most of the time for its size, such as the prehistoric forest and swamps but they also occasionally visited plains to graze. They are mostly seen as swamp dwellers. Being bipedal helped to stand taller in the water. It also had duck-billed beaks with very few teeth to chew food. It most likely chewed like a cow moving their jaw in a circular motion.
It will always be one of the most interesting dinosaurs to some people and researchers for its abilities and uniqueness. They have some gaps in what we know about them to be filled in. Overall these were one of the creatures some people just wish they could really see.
