The classic rock genre was no doubt pioneered by The Beatles. They’ve influenced groups/bands for the future including The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr formed the group in Liverpool in 1960. They are most famous for their popular songs “Here Comes The Sun,” ”Come Together,” ”Yesterday,” ”Let It Be,” and ”Hey Jude.”
With the help of AI to fill in for the band members who passed away, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were able to release their new single “Now and Then,” which debuted in the top 10 with 11 million streams after only being released less than a month ago. One of The Beatles biggest accomplishments included winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score, seven Grammy Awards, and introducing rock music to the world.
Grunge is another super popular genre, Nirvana was one of the biggest and most well-known groups that fell into the genre and helped pave the road for future groups. In Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987 Nirvana was formed by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic who played bass. Their most popular songs were “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Come As You Are,” “All Apologies,” “Nevermind,” “Lithium,” “Heart-Shaped Box,” “In Bloom,” and many, many others. The group went through several drummers, but Dave Grohl was the most known and was the last drummer in the band. After Kurt Cobain passed away in 1994, the group split up. Dave went on to a solo project which went on to become the Foo Fighters.
Green Day, along with a few other bands, are the face of Punk rock. The band was founded in the East Bay of California in 1987 by lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist and back singer Mike Dirnt. Some of their most popular songs include “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams,” “Good Riddance,” and “Holiday,” “Basket Case,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Brain Stew” and many others. They have announced and confirmed that they will be going on tour next year. The band has been nominated for 20 Grammy awards and won 5, their first one being in 1994.
The Cure is another example of a band of multiple genres, they were the first post-punk band, they often are mistaken for being goth due to their dark tone. “When people say it to me, you’re goth, I say you either have never heard us play or you have no idea what goth is. One of those two has to be true because we’re not a goth band.” “I remember just for a while, goths were outraged that people would think we’re a goth band.” is how they responded to being mistaken for the wrong genre. Some of their most popular songs include “Just Like Heaven,“ “Pictures Of You,“ “Let’s Go to Bed,“ “Lovesong,“ “Friday I’m in Love,“ and “The Lovecats.“ They won “Brit Award for British Group” in 1991, “Brit Award for British Award of The Year” in 1990, “NME Award – Godlike Genius Award” in 2009, and many others.
