“This is my 5th year teaching English Language Development at Hanover Area School district, and during that time I have helped countless students and families adjust to a new culture, navigate the school system, and provide support however I can.
During the pandemic, I was tech support for a lot of my students and families because they did not know how to use the Google Chrome book. I usually am the person that provides a connection from the family to the school. I help students become English proficient in listening, speaking, writing, and reading. I also provide support for the student and their families by communicating with them about what is happening in the school or classroom by sending messages home in their home language. I provide guidance and support to the content classroom teachers for their English Language Learners.
There are two things I’d like to say to today’s youth: Be open to learning new things and the direction your life may take. I never thought that this would be what I ended up doing, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. Also, be welcoming to someone who has a different outlook on life or has a different culture. We can only benefit from learning about someone else.”
