Social media addiction is often disregarded because it has become so widespread. Whether it’s younger kids, teens, or adults, we all have some type of addiction to social media like TVs, computers, cell phones, etc. There’s always an urge to log into your phone or use social media.
Think about a time when you realized how long you’ve been on a phone, playing video games, watching TV, or if you’ve looked around to realize how much people are doing the same thing- looking down at a phone. In all truth, we live in a generation where acting/being nonchalant and not caring about yourself or others is ‘cool’ yet you most likely don’t know how YOUR behavior may affect others and that energy just rubs off of others.
We waste our lives with meaningless distractions; ESPESIALLY when our eyes stare at blue light for too long. If you don’t know what blue light is, it’s the light in our devices that messes with our eyes, when we sleep, or even the brain.
In plenty of ways, our devices can be a huge distraction. Not many people have their screen time controlled. We all know how much technology has evolved from then to now and how much more people use it. Nowadays, most information that is available online can help us be more informed and can help us with things we don’t know the answers to, which is no problem at all to educate us.
Instead of feeling the need to involve yourself in drama, other’s business, or just scrolling through messages/videos, try to find yourself different activities you enjoy, like prioritizing your mental health, finding deeper connections with yourself or others, finding new hobbies, etc.
If you think you may have any type of addiction that is related to this, seek help or talk to someone about it.
