The Spinosaurus could be one of the most astonishing dinosaurs to certain people but it’s hard to stay the favorite when it’s always under changes of how it lived. It is one of the dinosaurs where fossils are rarer than many other fossils. Some reasons for the rarity are that they were the top predator in their time and area. This caused their population to be lower than others.
Spinosaurus theories all share that they lived in Africa along the coasts with a small population because they were most likely independent and loners due to their size. Then during the 2000’s, people realized that it probably swam. Soon after this realization, people also realized that they had many crocodilian features such as their snout, jaw, teeth, and were great swimmers.
One of the first theories on the Spinosaurus walked on 2 legs the walk was more of a waddle because it had stubby legs for its size. It stood tall and probably hunted smaller animals on land by ambushing.
The early 2000s theory is actually really close to the Jurassic Park spinosaurus. Tall, bigger sail on its back, strong arms, a good swimmer in rivers, a great runner, and able to take down large dinosaurs such as the T-Rex.
The newest theory and possibly the closest to the real thing, is not as flashy or cool but it is extremely unique and cool to learn about. It no longer stands tall but long (46 ft or 14 meters) it would use its front arms for walking and sometimes wouldn’t, it’s hard to tell. They are also now amazing swimmers; they mainly eat fish and ambush things on beaches or water edges. They are also now weak on land, slow, and can’t even walk fast. They would rarely be able to win a battle with something their size on land.
There are many possibilities and theories for dinosaurs but the Spinosaurus is one with a lot more because of the lack of fossils. One day, a lot of people hope to see the day we have close to complete knowledge of the world before us.
