PITTSTON, PA – Paint Pittston Pink is an organization made to raise money and awareness for cancer. PPP was started in 2014 with a mission: to bring the communities together and support a cure for all cancers through research and clinical trials. This organization has made and donated $770,000 to cancer research. It was a collaborative project started by Barb Sciandra and Qiana Murphy Lehman with a group of committed individuals who volunteer their time to bring the community together to support a cure for cancer.
This organization has many different activities that take place in September and October. Some of the activities include golf outings, blood drives, a lantern launch, award ceremonies, bingo, and a gentlemen’s dash (5k race). Below you can find information about each activity:
Gentlemen’s Dash
The gentlemen’s dash was an idea created by Sal Sciandra, who is the husband of the president of PPP. Sal came up with the idea of having men compete against each other while wearing high heels. The idea of this event was made to represent the pain men and women face while under cancer treatment. The 50m dash will happen on Main Street in Pittston, PA on Saturday, October 7th. Online registration closes on October 4th, however, registration will still be available on the day of in-person. More races will be held on October 7th, including the 1-mile youth-run, Color Me Pink 5k, and the family fun walk.
PPP Golf Outing
The PPP golf outing will be at the Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course. It’ll take place on Saturday, September 23rd at 8 AM. Buying one ticket includes the green fees and golf carts that can hold up to 4 people. The tickets also include a buffet dinner for each person. If you are not a golfer but would still like to go to dinner and support the organization you can go and enjoy some dinner prepared by Grill and Chill catering.
PPP Blood Drive
Donations of blood will be held on September 29th at the Pittston Memorial Library. When you arrive, you’ll have to register in order to donate blood.
PPP Lantern Launch and Awards Ceremony
The lantern launch will be held on September 30th at the Pittston Area High School on 5 Stout Street, starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be bought online, then at the launch you’ll be provided with a lantern. At this event, you will launch pink lanterns into the sky to create a landscape full of light, hope, and remembrance.
PPP Purse Bingo
The PPP Purse Bingo will take place on Sunday, October 1st at St. Maria Goretti Parish Hall in Wilkes Barre. The tickets will include three game cards, a signature drink, and the choice to play for prizes or for fun. Doors will open at 12:30 PM but the actual event will begin at 2:00 PM.
Paint Pazzo Pink
