Star Wars Reviews: Part 3
Spoiler-free review of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi
Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. This is definitely my favorite movie of the original trilogy. I just recently saw this in theaters for the first time when it was in for its 40th anniversary. I just absolutely love this movie and think it was a perfect way to wrap up this trilogy and these characters. This movie again starts off with a bang with Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker trying to save their friend Han from Jabba the Hutt. It was a very entertaining way to get everyone into the movie immediately and they keep you invested for the rest of the film. For most of the movie Luke is separated from Han and Leia because Luke is trying to take down Vader and Palpatine while Han, Leia, and Chewbacca are doing their own thing trying to disrupt the Empire. While they’re disrupting the Empire you’re introduced to a new form of characters that are very entertaining to watch. Yoda is also still in this movie for a bit and had a big impact on everything that would end up transpiring.
The villains of this movie were once again Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. Vader was perfect once again and even though he wasn’t as menacing as before, he still falls into this perfectly and it makes the story even better. A main reason it worked so well with him not being as menacing, was because Palpatine took over that role perfectly. He was just pure evil in this movie and was definitely the biggest threat to the heroes. The action in this movie was fantastic with the opening sequence and the third act was just filled with action and storytelling and it was just a perfect blend. The acting was perfect, specifically from Luke, Vader, Palpatine, and Han. The pacing was great as it never really slowed down at all and the score of the movie was great as always. The ending was my second most favorite ending that the franchise has ever produced and one of my favorite endings to a movie ever. The plot was also great, as it didn’t have any holes and everything made sense.
I always rate the Star Wars movies and shows and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 97/100, and there will only be 1 more movie in the rest of the Star Wars franchise that gets higher than that. This is a near-perfect movie and the only reason it’s not is because of some nit-picky stuff that was still really good. Overall, just an amazing movie, but more than that, a perfect ending to a perfect original trilogy.
