Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. I just watched this movie last week on opening night and it is already my favorite movie in the entire MCU. This probably won’t even be a review, it’s just going to be talking about how amazing this movie is. I’ll start off with what is maybe the biggest thing in the movie, and that’s how dark and emotional this movie got at times. For the first time in the MCU there were real dark topics being done throughout the film. In the movie there was a major part of it focused on animal cruelty and abuse which was the darkest I’ve ever seen the MCU go before. There was also just so much emotion regarding every character that it always left you on the edge of your seat. However, they perfectly balanced out that emotion with absolutely amazing and hilarious comedy. These Guardians movies always have a good amount of comedy in them and it’s always good, but the comedy in this one was easily the funniest. The action was also phenomenal throughout the movie and they also had one of the best action sequences I’ve ever seen.

The villain in this movie was a man known as the High Evolutionary. All I can say about this performance is wow. This man is so unbelievably evil and just a perfect villain. Most MCU villains fall into the same format of just wanting to destroy or take over the universe(which they poke fun at in the movie). However, the High Evolutionary is just a pure evil man and the acting performance delivered by Chukwudi Iwuji was perfect. All of the characters had their moments and shine as well. Within the Guardians alone, Star Lord was phenomenal showing the effects of loss and grief while also just being hilarious. Gamora was different from other movies but still very good. Groot was his usual entertaining tree self. Drax was absolutely hilarious from start to finish. Mantis showed a lot of character growth and was very funny. Nebula had the biggest character development in the entire MCU and was also great. Adam Warlock was an interesting new character that I enjoyed and thought he was very unique. Finally, the star of the movie Rocket the Racoon was phenomenal. Everything the writers did with his character was perfect and was handled greatly. The plot also was very good and made sense from beginning to end with no real plot holes.

I always rate the Marvel movies and shows and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. For the first time I gave this movie a 100/100, and like I said, everything was perfect. I didn’t even talk about one of the most important parts of all the Guardians trilogy that stayed the same in this one, but the score was amazing. The music choice that is pulled out for these movies is ridiculous and perfectly done. The cinematography and pacing were also great as the entire movie just flew by with no real dry spots. Overall just a perfectly done movie.
