Marvel Reviews: Part 28
Spoiler-free review of Hawkeye
Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Hawkeye. This is the first Marvel show I will be reviewing. I am only going to be doing this and one more show, then I’m going to get back to the movies. I thought this show was great. Definitely, my favorite MCU show that they put out. I thought that this was a very well-written and well-paced show. It never felt like there was a slower episode and they just did a great job at keeping my attention. Obviously, this show is centered around a former Avenger in Hawkeye. However, there is also a new character that Clint (Hawkeye) eventually takes under his wing, in Kate Bishop. Kate idolized Hawkeye from how he and the rest of the Avengers stopped the attack on New York in the first Avengers movie. They do some great flashbacks throughout the show from Kate’s POV watching Hawkeye fight off the Chitauri. She also became an amazing archer because of Hawkeye and always took after him. There are also a few really cool twists and some amazing cameos.
The main villain in the show is Echo, a new character who is the adoptive daughter of a legendary villain, who is eventually revealed. I thought that Echo was a really cool character as she battled with internal conflict a lot throughout the show. She is also deaf, which is something that isn’t done a lot in the MCU, so I found that pretty interesting. There is also another cameo, with someone that has a lot to do with Clint and his past, which was also done very well. The show wasn’t crazy action-packed, however the action scenes that they did have were used very effectively and highly entertaining. The score was an average MCU score, however that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just a bit generic. The friendship between Clint and Kate was very good and they developed perfectly throughout the show.
I always rate the marvel movies and shows and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this a 87/100, and like I said, it was just a very fun show with some great action scenes. The characters were also basically perfect, as everyone did very well and the acting from all of them was also very good.
