Marvel Reviews: Part 19

Spoiler-free review of Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange

Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Doctor Strange. This is one of the most unique and strangest movies that Marvel has ever produced. The movie follows a renowned surgeon known as Dr. Stephen Strange. He gets into a bad car accident and robs him of the use of his hands. Traditional medicine fails him time after time so he looks for healing in a mysterious enclave. In this enclave he learns about the dark forces trying to destroy reality. He then turns into Doctor Strange, one of the most powerful sorcerers in existence. This movie also follows the different realms and the billions of universes. The top thing in the movie is its cinematography because as a sorcerer he can morph buildings and make anything whatever he wants. He also has the time stone which lends him the ability to reverse time or look around the multiverse to see the outcome of anything he chooses.

The villain in the movie is a man named Kaecilius who is known as a dark sorcerer who was originally a member of the Mystic Arts just like Strange, however he was corrupted. I thought he was a solid villain but nothing special at all. He also falls into the classic Marvel villain cliche. Another main character in the movie is the Ancient One who teaches these people everything they know and is very powerful. I thought the plot in the movie was very good and well-developed as well. I also love the character of Doctor Strange because he is very cocky and arrogant throughout the movie and even in the end after his development he still remains the same in that aspect.

I always rate the marvel movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie an 89/100, I thought the action, plot, cinematography, and protagonist were amazing. However, this movie definitely has some pacing issues and could’ve gotten rid of some unnecessary scenes. Also the villain was solid but nothing to bring the score up too high.
