Marvel Reviews: Part 12
Spoiler-free review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I don’t think this is one of the best movies Marvel has made, however, it is a personal favorite. The characters are still phenomenal with the same cast but with some new additions. There is Nebula who plays the sister of Gamora, Yondu was in the last movie but plays a much bigger role in this one, and Mantis who is basically a servant. The movie starts off with an amazing action scene and also introduces you to Baby Groot. Baby Groot was made by normal Groot at the end of the last movie. The comedy in this movie is amazing with Rocket, Drax, and baby Groot leading it. The score is also great just like in the last movie and that is a recurring theme for any movie that the guardians are in. You also get more knowledge about Peter’s father, who I mentioned in the last review Peter has never met.
The villain in this movie is a powerful alien race known as the Sovereign. They originally hire the guardians to protect these very important batteries from invaders, but Rocket ends up stealing them for himself. The Sovereign is not a good villain at all. They are very boring and the movie does a very bad job of making you care about them. The plot throughout the movie is also kind of shaky and it gets better at the end but for most of the movie, there’s no real plot line. The acting for the most part is very good but every once in a while there were some shaky scenes. The ending however is also phenomenal and they wrap it up with a bittersweet emotional ending.
I always rate the marvel movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are: action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 86/100 which is a little better than the first one and as I’ve shown by no means is this a perfect movie, but with the comedy, action, and a great ending it just heavily outweighs the bad. There are also some good twists in the movie that are somewhat predictable but it is still interesting to see.
