Marvel Reviews: Part 8
Spoiler-free review of Thor: The Dark World
Today I will be doing a spoiler-free review of Thor: The Dark World. This movie is not the worst movie that Marvel has produced, but it is really close. Pretty much the entire movie the only characters I cared about were Thor and Loki. Jane is still in the cast as Thor’s love interest just like the first one, but this time there’s a twist to it. The Aether is the ultimate weapon of the Dark Elves. The Dark Elves fought a war against Asgard in ancient times and lost. The Aether was buried in a secret location and Jane is the one who unfortunately finds it. This leads to Jane having to go to Asgard and she can’t control the weapon and so on. The whole plot was just very stupid and it didn’t make me want to keep watching the movie.
The antagonist in the movie is Dark Elf Malekith who is in contention for the worst villain in Marvel history. His whole purpose in the movie is to capture Jane and destroy the nine realms with the Aether. There was 1 very good action scene in the movie and it wasn’t even the final battle. The entire movie is based around Jane and Thor and Marvel tries to act like it’s not. They want it to be a normal superhero movie where the hero overcomes the odds against the big bad villain(which is very lame and boring in itself). However, it’s not that at all and they just couldn’t figure out what they wanted this movie to be.
I always rate the marvel movies and I rate them based on 10 things in the movie. Those things are action, acting, cinematography, pacing, score, characters, ending, plot, protagonist, and antagonist. I rate all of those pieces 1-10 and then after that, I add up the scores of all 10 of them and get a total score out of 100. I gave this movie a 51/100, it just isn’t good. The only parts of the movie that help it out in the slightest are cinematography, score, and protagonist. Everything else was either average or below average with pacing, plot, antagonist, and action all being pretty bad.
