The History behind St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day takes place on the 17th of March every year. It is a worldwide celebration that celebrates Irish culture.

This day was created by more than two dozen Presbyterians who emigrated from the north of Ireland. These Presbyterians wanted to honor St. Patrick. St Patrick was a patron saint of Ireland.

There is a big mystery involving him being held by a crowd of Irish raiders. The world had many theories about it. Until this day, no one really knows the complete backstory of his life. Ireland named this day after him considering this was the date of his death.

On this holiday, people celebrate and support it in various ways. Many individuals dress in green clothing. There is a myth that Leprechauns pinch anyone they see, but green makes them invisible. In other ways, people go to parades, dance, listen to music, and eat different Irish foods.

The first-ever St. Patrick’s day parade was held in 1764, in New York City. Many called it Saint Patrick’s feast day.
