Sophomore class officers

The GNA Insider interviewed the 2017-2018 sophomore class officers. Together, they look to lead their class to a successful future.

Gabby Proleika, President

Why did you decide to run for class office?

I ran for class office because I wanted to make a difference in our class. We have great students within our sophomore class.  I think we have a lot coming to our school and community

Why is serving important to you?

Serving as class president is important to me because I like to be an active part in my school community.

What qualities make a good leader?

Personally, I believe a good leader has to be a “people person” and find ways to get along with everyone. Also, I feel as if they should make an effort to change their community and school for the better while also trying to improve upon themselves.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

After school, I’m involved in Track and Field, art classes, and Interact Club. I’m also going to shadow my local veterinarian to get experience within the field.

How do you plan to balance your school work/extracurricular along with your officer duties?

I will balance my school work and extracurricular activities along with my officer duties by completing my work as soon as possible. I’m trying to do better with my tendency to procrastinate.

Do you have any ideas for new events that the sophomore class could hold?

My plans for our sophomore class is to have a cookout at the end of the year, a possible field day and we’re trying to set up some activities for the class before the holiday break. I’m hoping to get as many students from our class as involved as possible!

Stefanya Golightly, Vice-President

Why did you decide to run for class office?

I wanted to be more involved with the school and my class.

Why is serving important to you?

So I can let my class know when important events will occur and so I can reach out to everyone in my grade and not just a few people.

What qualities make a good leader?

Being able to get back on task after failure, a good personality, being honest, and straightforward.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I am involved in cheerleading and field hockey.

How do you plan to balance your school work and extracurricular activities along with your officer duties?

I’ll do my homework before cheer-leading and make sure it’s done before I move onto something else.

Do you have any new events that the sophomore class could hold?

Maybe some festivity for the holiday season to get everyone in the spirit.

Caitlyn McHenry,  Secretary

Do you have any ideas for new events that the sophomore class could hold?

On Halloween, students can pay $3.00 to dress up and enter a costume competition. The money would support a local cause. All of the students can anonymously vote, and the winner would receive a gift card from a select restaurant.

Christopher Cabonilas, Treasurer

Why did you decide to run for class office?

I decided to run for class office because, in the past, my parents were both class presidents in their respective schools and I wanted to be a leader-like figure just as they were.

Why is serving important to you?

Serving is important to me because I feel as if I can give a voice to those who aren’t quite heard.

What qualities make a good leader?

The ability to make decisions with everyone’s best interest in mind, have a strong sense of morality, and overall just being a good role model are qualities of a good leader.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I am involved in the school’s jazz band and swim team.

How do you plan to balance your school work and extracurricular activities along with your officer duties?

School work and extracurriculars already leave me with plenty of free time, so officer duties should be manageable.
