Biztown
Every year, the sixth grade class of GNA goes to JA Biztown in Pittston, Pa. During their trip to Biztown, the sixth grade class practices filling out checks, opening savings accounts, and being an overall good citizen in their JA Biztown community!
According to Junior Achievement, Biztown is “an 8,000 square foot mini-city housing 14 business storefronts. Students participating in the JA BizTown program complete 16 lessons taught in the classroom. Classroom lessons prepare students to take on the challenge of running a business and managing their personal and business finances. Classroom preparation also encompasses career exploration, applying for a job and job interviews.”
Students encountered an exceptional amount of real world experiences at Biztown, which is why it is such an amazing experience for these sixth grade students. The teachers at the Education Center get these students prepared as much as possible for Biztown every year.
Many high school students at GNA come and help the students by volunteering for the day. The students in the National Honor Society help the sixth graders throughout the day at their JA Biztown business. This program, being a citizen and volunteer at JA Biztown, is very helpful.
