World news week of 11/20/17

On Monday, November 20th, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England celebrated the 70th anniversary of her marriage with Prince Philip, becoming the first royal couple to do so. Having been married since 1947, the couple have been in the public eye for most of the 20th century, even before ascending to the throne. In celebration of this moment, the two royals had new photographic portraits taken in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. Also in commemoration of the anniversary, The Royal Mail, Britain’s postal service, has released a set of stamps featuring images from the engagement, wedding, and honeymoon of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Charles Manson, notorious cult leader of the 1960’s, died on Sunday the 19th of natural causes at the age of 83. In his prime, Manson led a cult which was infamous for its heinous murders. Seven people lost their lives to his cult in 1969, and Charles along with most of his “Manson Family” spent the rest of their lives in prison. Manson himself never actually participated in the killings, but rather convinced and manipulated his cultists into doing it for him. Originally, Manson, along with many of his “family”, was given the death sentence, but this was commuted to life in prison after California, where he was being tried, abolished the death penalty.
