Progression of technology in phones

Technology has always been advancing in everything—especially in phones. Some of these advancements were revolutionary to society, to such a degree that the release of touch-screen and Bluetooth technology-induced a belief that electronic improvement had plateaued. Nevertheless, LG and Samsung—two of the most influential phone developers—are going even further than these creations with their latest products.

LG

LG played it safe in 2017 and 2018 with their G6 and G7 phones. This year, they are making huge advancements in their G8. The G8 looks identical to the G7 of last year but has different internal specifications. The phone possesses a notably horizontal dual camera (as opposed to a vertical one); it additionally has 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, providing a new level of mobile performance.

The LG advancement

As was mentioned previously, LG has made big advancements in phone technology. These include Air Motion and Hand ID.

Air Motion allows one to control a phone without touching the screen. Simply making a hand gesture will allow a user to perform different actions with your phone. Currently, the new feature only allows switching between apps and changing volume; the feature does, nonetheless, provide great potential to mobile developers.

Hand ID, on the other hand, is a new way to input a password and unlock one’s phone. To set a password, one can hover their hand above the phone, which will map and identify the blood flow in their hand as a new form of biometric authentication.

Samsung

Samsung is making improvements to 2 separate phone series.

The first of these is the new Fold phone line.

In the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold, both the device’s specifications and the screen have changed. “Ten years after the first Galaxy. We didn’t just change the shape of the phone. We changed the shape of tomorrow,” states the company’s website (link website). The phone has two different displays: one of a normal phone which, when the device is folded back, will resemble an ordinary electronic’s screen. However, one will be able to expand it into a full tablet-sized display with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Running alongside the Galaxy Fold is the new and upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10, which has been the object of many technological advancements. Among these is the manner in which the phone scans a user’s fingerprint, whereby the phone’s screen will analyze a user’s finger (as opposed to the power button having a built-in fingerprint scanner). Additionally, the phone’s new camera will be equipped with a “Pro-grade Multi-Camera,” which, according to Samsung’s website (link website), will “[see] what you see.” The camera will be able to perfect the setting of a phone picture and adapt it to the associated scenery. The camera will be able to, with a simple tap, adjust both the picture’s brightness and its fundamental settings.

The Galaxy S10 will also be adapted to gamers’ desires, containing an assortment of high-power hardware and software in order to be able to run bigger and bulkier mobile games.
