Trojans finish strong to send Meyers packing

The final minute of the Nanticoke vs. Meyers quarter-final game almost blew the roof off of the Wyoming Area gymnasium.

The score was close the entire game, leading the final minute to be the deciding factor.

With just over a minute remaining on the clock, Nate Kreitzer went big when he swished a 3-pointer to give the Trojans a 2 point lead.

Not even 10 seconds later, Meyers’ top scorer, Juwane Buckner, sank his own 3-pointer, once again giving the game to Meyers’ favor by a point.

After a series of timeouts called by Meyers, they got control of the ball and put another 2-pointer through the rim, giving the Mohawks a 3 point advantage with less than a minute remaining.

Colby Butczynski made a free-throw for the Trojans and Meyers put up 2 of their own, giving them a 4 point lead with less than 45 seconds remaining.

What happened next would be the first of two events to change the fate of the game.

Junior Nate Kreitzer was fouled at the 3-point line and went to the free-throw line for 3 shots. After sinking all three, the Trojans were back to only a 1 point deficit (48-47).

Freshman Jake Krupinski sealed the deal by getting control of the ball and swishing a 3-pointer from way down town, advancing the Trojans to the PIAA District II semi-finals, and ending Meyers’ season with a negative record (12-13).
