Martin Luther King Jr. Day

This year Martin Luther King Day is on Monday, January 15th. On this day, we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr is one of the most favored motivational speakers.

We have no school this day because of it being a federal holiday. Even though, some school’s choose to still have school. Mostly, because they need to make up for all of the time lost because of  winter storms.

Martin Luther King Jr was an American Baptist Minister. We recognize this day because he was a huge leader in our society. He was known to be the most visible spokesperson. Also, he was the leader in the civil rights movement.

Martin Luther King Jr. gave the “I have a dream” speech to get all of the American’s to be treated equally. He became a leader to end racial segregation and discrimination in America. This event took place during the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s death was caused by an assassination from a firearm from James Earl Ray. He died on the date of April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. James Earl Ray was a convicted murderer and had served 29 years in prison. He died 1998, in prison due to an chronic hepatitis C infection.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy was that he dedicated his life to the nonviolent struggle for racial purposes in the United States.
