Meet Mr. Schillinger

Mr. Schillinger, who is under the guidance of Mr. Stetz, is a student teacher this fall at Greater Nanticoke Area High School.

The GNA Insider sat down with Mr. Schillinger to ask him a few questions:

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I want a career where I am actively impacting and , hopefully, improving the community.

What high school did you graduate from? What College do you attend?

I graduated from Arlington High School in New York. The college I attend is King’s College.

Is teaching what you imagined it to be? Why or Why not?

King’s College prepared me well and it is very much what I expected. The students are fun, respectful (if you respect them) and interested in learning.

What subject(s) are you studying to teach? Why did you choose this subject(s)?

I am studying political science and history. Before seeking an education degree, I worked for 13 years as a newspaper reporter and feel I have an interesting way to look at the subjects and some fun ways to teach them.

In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing education today?

There are too many issues to possibly single one out- budget woes, labor strife, too much teaching, and communication. One that pops in my head is students and technology- how will the constantly changing world impact how students learn?
